Enhancing the competencies in Simultaneous Interpreting
Second-year students of the Program Translation and Interpreting in the Department of English Language, within the Faculty of Philology at “Fehmi Agani” University of Gjakova, are engaged in practical sessions as part of the course “Interpreting II,” with a particular emphasis on the use of professional booths for simultaneous interpreting.
Within this course, students further develop and enhance their competencies in simultaneous interpreting by practicing real-time language mediation from English into Albanian and vice versa. The teaching process takes place in the Translation and Interpreting Laboratory, where the use of specialized booths enables students to operate under conditions that align with the standards of conference interpreting. This process involves the use of professional listening and transmission equipment, exposing students to the practical challenges of simultaneous information processing and the immediate production of the interpreted discourse.
Through this practice-oriented approach, students develop advanced skills in time management, sustained concentration, selective listening, and the coordination between comprehension and production processes. The use of interpreting booths contributes to the creation of an authentic and professional learning environment, facilitating the functional integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application and preparing students for real-world engagements in the field of simultaneous interpreting.
